Julia
Hey there! If you clicked on my bio, then you must
be either extremely cool or extremely stalker-ish.
Let’s go with the former.
Anyways, my name is Julia. I’m a fourteen-year-old tenth grader living in the United States of America. My dream is to get my Ph.D in Biology (or some branch of it) and become a wildlife biologist. I have dark hair, pale skin that absolutely refuses to tan, and I stand somewhere around 5 foot 7 or 5 foot 8.
My absolute favorite thing in the world is being outside. (It sounds strange, coming from someone who is a strong advocate of technology and will never willingly separate from her beloved laptop.) However, I believe that technology does not hinder nature; rather, we can use technology and innovative thinking to create a cleaner, more beautiful world. I love gardening, and I also enjoy hiking and (sometimes) camping. When I was thirteen years old (and then again when I was fourteen), my family and I spent five days hiking through the Grand Canyon. We went down to the base to see the Colorado River and then hiked back out. It was absolutely amazing. When I think of what I want to make of my life, I realize it always ends up coming back around to helping the environment. I’m a pescitarian (meaning the only animal I eat is seafood), and I believe that animals should have rights.
When I’m not trying to save the world, I’m probably engaging in any of my other favorite pastimes. This list includes dancing (jazz, ballet, modern, and tap), web designing, blogging, snapping photographs, running, and writing.
I’m a pretty quiet person. I’m an introvert, meaning I acquire energy from being alone and with nature rather than talking and socializing. I’m not calling myself a social outcast or anything, but I wouldn’t describe myself as a “popular” person, either. I don’t go to school dances, and I don’t go to parties. I rarely text anyone but my very best friends; in fact, I rarely use my phone at all. I go to an all girls’ school, so I don’t know any guys. I’ve never dated. I got asked out once, but it was by a stranger, so I politely declined. I’m very left-brained, meaning I prefer logical thinking and tend to take a scientific viewpoint to most matters. My favorite subjects are Science and History. I’m a perfectionist to an extent; if I’m not completely satisfied with something, I keep working. I’ve very stubborn and very opinionated.
I’m an atheist, meaning I do not believe in gods. (Not just the Judeo-Christian god that most people refer to, but every god humans have invented.) Everyone is an atheist to a certain extent. Christians are all atheists to the Greek God Zeus or the gods of Ancient Egypt, and so on. I just go one god further. I think that all religions should be tolerated within society, and everyone should be able to practice their chosen belief system. I’m perfectly comfortable with religion, as long as no one is trying to force scriptures down my throat.
I’m a strong supporter of gay rights, and I think that society is cruel for trying to condemn someone for being biologically different than the standard. I also believe in abortion and in choice, as long as the embryo is still in the early stages where it has not developed a nervous system. I believe that no one should be discriminated against. All ages, genders, races, and religions should be treated equally. As an atheist, I also believe that no one life is worth more than the other. Human arrogance has created this idea that the entire universe was created specifically for our enjoyment, and because of this, we may murder animals and waste natural resources and destroy fragile ecosystems. I do not believe this; rather, I think we should coexist in peace.
I know that my opinions very oftentimes clash with those of the general public. But that’s okay. We are free people, and we CAN coexist. We can put forth ideas that are controversial and still like each other at the end of the day. I’m Julia. I’m a teenager living in the 21st century, a strange, new world where different people can live together in peace.
